PCL’s reputation as a high-tech builder prompted FSI International Inc., a world leader in the production of automated surface conditioning equipment, to commission the Minneapolis district to construct its new 110,000 sf manufacturing facility.
Because of the ultra-clean requirements, a "build clean" approach was utilised, involving as many as five levels of protocol, each more stringent than the last, to ensure the working environment is free of dust particles, the tiniest of which can destroy a microchip. In the final stages, workers are required to dress in full cleanroom garb (i.e. gowns, shoe covers, bouffants) and enter and exit the cleanroom via an airlock.
